Angel Dream

Paddy's Notes

Again Bill comes alive on this. The violin lick is soaring and contagious. It's a simple, bittersweet lovesong. It's probably the first song I have written where I was thinking of no one in particular. It was a 4am bedroom idea on acoustic guitar. The lyric came in 15 minutes and I liked it so we explored it ../musically. I have a recording of it but I am unhappy with the mix. We will be remixing it soon.

I think it has great potential but the mix will be critical. Lyrically it reminds me of a Walter Mitty type guy living in his own little dream world and then coming out of it, or someone waking out of the dream of a perfect love, or even some guy bragging to his mates about his woman and how great she is until they beat the shit out of him due to boredom or envy or most likely because it's all a lie. Who knows.

The ending lyric reflects my belief that some of life's most important statements can't be spoken but must be practiced, rather these "statements" are really actions or true beliefs, and love - true love - has to "happen" to a person and it may never happen even though many people marry and have families anyway. The last lyric idea seems to turn it all religious, something I tend to do frequently in my writing. I'm certain that occurs due to guilt. It's certainly not an accurate reflection of how I live my life. Anyway, the guy in the song looks up and sees love, the real Angel. (Something I wish more people were able to do.) He sees his angel dream so it's a happy ending.

It's the most frequent original song Bill and I cover during duo gigs even though it was written long after Live-Love-Now was recorded and released. I also think it shows that we have learned from the writing and recording process of our first studio record, Live-Love-Now. At its core the song is guitar and violin and we are learning how to preserve that fact, something that will be critical for future recordings.......plus it keeps the violinist happy!

Angel Dream Lyrics
Recorded on: Uncircumcised

She likes a cup of coffee first thing in the morning
She likes to be made love to as the day is dawning
She likes to breathe the air from her balcony outside
She says it gives her freedom, and clears her mind for a while

She looks at me with loving eyes, she sees into my heart
She says she'll always love me even if we are apart
She colors in my life in blue and in green
Her eyes hold the keys to the palace of my dreams

Angel Dream
This angel's heart has been given to me
This can't be real

I look upon her angel face framed by her long hair
She says I leave my scent on her even when I can't be there
The strength I see within her, the softness of her hands
Oh how I love the ground upon which this woman stands

When I feel I'm going down, she's there to break my fall
Like an angel on my shoulder, she's been there through it all
Sometimes I feel so lucky to know someone so good
I wonder what I've done to deserve this kind of love

Angel Dream
This angel's heart has been given to me
This can't be real

Angel Dream
This angel's heart has been given to me
This can't be real
And I wake up in the morning
She's nowhere to be seen
My pretty angel girl was just a dream.
Just an angel dream
Her angel heart was not for me
It was all a dream

Sometimes words get in the way
Of all the things you have to say
Of all the things you have to do
Then reality creeps up on you

Don't let words get in the way
Of anything you ever have to say
You can never fail if you know you tried
So for your dreams bleed your heart dry
Like I bleed my heart heart dry
I tell no lie to you
My Angel Dream

I can see her, I can see her
And I can feel, I can feel
All her love, all that love
Shining down, shining down on me
